What Happens When 130 L&D and HR Practitioners Stop Talking About Teamwork —and Start Feeling It
At #play14 Singapore last weekend, we experienced Upbeat®: Better Teams Through the Science of Drumming.
At first, there were 130 individuals—each with a different rhythm, energy, and way of contributing.
Then we began to listen.
We adjusted.
We found the shared beat.
And suddenly, we were no longer a room full of individuals playing alongside one another. We became one coherent team—connected by rhythm, attention, and purpose. That is what high-performing teams do.
They do not achieve coherence by making everyone the same. They create it by helping different people contribute their unique strengths while staying deeply attuned to one another.
When one person rushes, the rhythm feels it.
When someone holds back, the rhythm loses it.
When everyone listens and contributes, the whole group becomes stronger.
That is the power of coherence.
It is not perfect uniformity.
It is different people creating something together that none of them could create alone.
Thank you to all 130 L&D and HR practitioners who brought their energy, openness, and unique beat to play14 Singapore.
We didn’t just play the rhythm.
We became the rhythm.
